I am reading the most fabulous Stephen King book - Duma Key. The main character is injured in an accident and as he recovers he turns to art. This being Stephen King, the man's relationship with his creations is fraught with turmoil and discovery. Personally, when I'm trapped in a maelstrom of emotion, my art tends to suffer. So when I had a traumatic turn of events with an illness, the last thing I wanted to do was draw or paint. I needed something new. Once my head was back on straight, I went back to the visual arts. I want to create useful art, not just clutter. That's just me. I don't do art as a form of therapy; I do other things to keep my head on straight so I when I come to the easel I don't make more clutter. I'm curious to see what happens to the character in this book, and intrigued by the push-pull of creation as both savior and destroyer.
