Lost Art

Everyone has some things they're good at, and at the end of the day you hope one of those things intersects with something that will bring in money. And then there are some things you're good at that just don't seem to matter, or go unappreciated.

I'm a good speller. But this seems to be a lost art. Bad spelling is everywhere, and it seems people use the English language correctly about 50% of the time. These are 50% times. 50% bad spelling, 50% divorce rate, 80% apathy. Lost art.

I'm good at tennis. Well, I used to be; the whole running thing doesn't happen anymore. Today I drove by my small town's tennis court where high schoolers were practicing. My school never had tennis. And now I can't run. Lost art.

Since I didn't excel at any other sports, I was in band. This required participation in marching band, the most thankless place one can be. There's the band nerd stigma, there's the uniforms, there's the marching band contests (I'm not kidding). During concert band season, I was on the oboe. This instrument is hard to play and sounds like an injured cow. Lost art.

Now I'm putting together my art site and learning an art - how to make something clean and easy to navigate. Bear with me. It's not a lost art for me yet; it's a way to promote the art I haven't lost yet.
